Column on childhood obesity programs and discrimination

There was a short piece in The New Yorker recently (Apr 12) that took a look at "anti-obesity" policies in city schools. There's now an official list of approved snack foods, and all of them have corporate logos on them. Nothing else - certainly nothing homemade - is permitted on school property. It's clearly just a scam to make sure Mom and Dad have to buy all of Junior's munchies from a big food conglomerate.

LOL

so let me get this straight, to help the obesity "crisis" parents are NOT to pack there own kids lunches and determine exactly what there kid should and shouldn't be eating, but rather give the kids money to buy what ever comercial treat strikes their fancy?

The world is honest to god screwed in these situations >.<
