I had reason to do a general web search on my username recently - in the results of the search engine, came up a post that I had written on Fantasy Feeder a good number of years ago - it is there for anyone to read, even if they are not a member of Fantasy Feeder.

I don't know what other people's feelings are, but this seems quite a security risk to me.

I thought that search engines would not be able to crawl pages that you would not normally be able to see without a login?

You don't need an account to access the forums, although you do need one to access certain site areas or to post. The forums are open to the public.

That seems a bit strange to me and exposes peoples user names outside of what is a protected space - I am guessing this is probably mentioned in the small print, but I wasn't aware of it.

Is there a particular reason for doing this? If you are trying to encourage people to the site by having a forum post pop up on someones internet search, wouldn't it be better to remove the user name?

For me, it will make me less likely to post, knowing that what I write is going out on the internet, rather than to like minded people in a private space.

Not saying it's wrong or right, but most websites allow their forums to be read by all. However, you have to sign up to post.
