chapter 3: who

“That was amazingly close. Guess it's time to head off to work. You definitely wouldn't want to have to tell your boss you were late because you couldn't say no to Ericka feeding you one of everything from the breakfast buffet. That would just be too embarrassing. It's not like your overfed gut would say that all for you, anyways.”

Jared ran to brush his teeth and hair, grabbed his laptop, and ran out the door. By the time he arrived at his desk, it was 7:16am. He didn't say a word, and clocked in exactly one minute late.

Throughout the work day, Jared couldn't stop thinking about Ericka. Was he crazy, or was he incredibly turned on after her surprise visit that morning? And how did she so suddenly gain this power over him? He couldn't say no to anything she fed him, especially with her hot, modelesque body and big brown eyes. Any time she looked at him, he was her puppet again. But he couldn't keep doing this, right?

Just the thought of Ericka going back to the States was unbearable for Jared. He had to find a way to get her to stay. He knew she worked with the external communications department, which meant she must've known something about words and stuff. His department was hiring a PR person after a recent safety issue, and he knew just the girl for the job.

But would he put his own waistline on the line so she would become his feeder?

Absolutely. Before he could even answer his own question, he was at his boss's desk.

“How can I help you, Jared?” he asked. Jared was usually a desk mole, only getting up to grab a snack or a coffee. It was unusual for him to show up at the boss's desk.

“So I know you were trying to fill that PR job after that accident, are you still looking for applicants?”

“Well, we started vetting applicants, but we haven't really had any strong candidates. Did you suddenly want to venture away from engineering and into the public relations field? Because that would be quite the pay cut for you..” his boss chuckled.

“No, I was thinking of it for a friend of mine. She's actually already working here in the external comms department, but her contract expires this week. I'm not sure if those are even remotely the same thing, but maybe we could interview her?”

“Oh Jared, I see what's going on here. Someone has a little crush!” his boss teased.

“Oh, no sir, well, um, it's complicated. It's not a crush, I just, well, don't want her to not be here?” his brain scrambled to put into words why he felt the need to keep Ericka at the camp.

His boss laughed, “Sure, we can get her an interview. Would you be able to get her over here this afternoon?”

“Of course, sir.” Jared replied, wide eyed and almost in shock at everything that was happening.

“Great. And also, you don't need to call me sir. I can tell you're nervous, but it's ok. We've ALL been there before.” his boss winked.

“Ah, no sir, I mean, boss, it's not like that, it's just...” Jared stammered. “Never mind, I'll be back in a bit with Ericka so you can interview her.” he conceded.

"Hopefully she's not exactly one minute late like someone else around here." his boss burned.

Mortified, Jared ran back to his desk, redirecting his embarrassment to draft an email to Ericka.
