Chapter 2

The next morning, Gordon woke up starving. They didn’t usually have hot breakfasts on week days, so he grabbed a bowl of cereal and went out the door to work. On the way, he stopped at a coffee shop and bought a large coffee with cream and sugar. On a whim, he picked up a dozen donuts. I’ll share them with the office, he thought, but then there was a lot of traffic on his commute to work and his hand crept into the donut box again and again. He couldn’t offer the office a half eaten box of donuts, so he slipped the rest into his briefcase.

Gordon worked in as an IT specialist. His old apartment had been close enough to walk to work, so he’d only recently begun to drive every day.

By lunchtime, the donuts were all gone. Gordon wandered out of the building, as he often did on his lunch break, to a nearby strip of fast food restaurants. He bought a Big Mac meal with extra large fries and a coke and ate the whole thing. He was feeling full, but decided to stop into the next restaurant and pick up an order of onion rings. They were greasy and salty and so good. He licked his fingers and then surreptitiously let his belt out to the last hole. Man, these pants were tight.

He was full when he got back to the office but by mid-afternoon he was feeling peckish. He wandered down to the vending machine in its dimly-lit corner, but couldn’t decide between a Mars bar and a Mr. Big. He decided to get both.

After work, he stopped at the mall and ran into a men’s clothing store. He grabbed a pair of 32 inch pants, but to his surprise they weren’t very roomy. He went with the 34s instead. His eyes wandered to the larger sizes and he picked up a pair with a 40 inch waist. They would be his aspirational pants, he decide. He added a longer belt to his purchases and made his way home.

Delectable smells of cooking greeted him at the door. Katy was hard at work in the kitchen. He kissed her hello and sheepishly showed her his purchases. Her eyes widened at the 40 inch pants.

“I bought a few things, too,” she said, pulling a scale and a tape measure out of a bag. “So we can track your progress.”

“Oh, let’s do that right now!”

He stripped down to his underwear and stepped on the scale. The readout stopped at 152. He blinked.

Katy wrapped the tape measure around his waist, his hips and his thighs. Supper nearly burned when they got distracted, but luckily it was saved. It was steak with mashed potatoes and fried onions and green beans marinated in maple syrup. Gordon loaded up.

It was a Friday night, so after supper they went down to the neighbourhood pub to meet friends for a few beers. Gordon ended up splitting a plate of nachos with the guys, then eating a quarter pound donair on the way home.

That night as he drunkenly lay atop his girlfriend, his bloated belly pressed into her soft one. He imagined her pinned and wriggling beneath his bulk and began pumping harder.

“I love you,” he moaned into her hair.

“I, huff, love you, too,” she panted.
