chapter 5-first date part 2

I turned to go back to the kitchen to be greeted by Anna's massive mother. "Hello again" I said to Mrs. Burg as I walked in the kitchen. "Oh, sorry I should have warned you about that they have been doing that for about a decade you don't want to piss him off like Andrew did." Now I had heard about that dinner a year ago and how bad it went but I just had to know the whole story so I asked Anna's mother "So what did he do wrong?" Mrs. Burg recounted the horror story of their evening with Richards, but at the end when Mrs. Burg looked disappointed her daughter was still dating the brute I let loose and said, "Don't worry she is not dating him anymore." Mrs. Burg looked surprise and her eyes widened when she put two and two together. "So, you are they guy Anna raved about, and now you are here for dinner; are you two dating?" Mrs. Burg was a straight shooter, and I just experienced it firsthand. I replied in what would be my now classic fashion. "Mrs. Burg I like Anna and from the multiple kisses on the lips on valentine's day she likes me back, and I have tried not to show any sign of affection until that point. Now I was presented with the opportunity to either earn the respect or hatred of you and your husband consider it a gamble, but it already seems like you like me more than Anna's ex, but Mr. Burg seems to be both amazed and annoyed by me."

Mrs. Burg was surprised by my honesty. She walked, well slightly waddled around the counter, very fast and hugged me. Mrs. Burg said "well he will take time. Me on other had I think any guy that is more like my husband I can respect dating my daughter because he will treat her as good as he does, but break her heart and you will regret it." I didn't see that coming, and she whispered in my ear "Andrew would always nag her when she ate a real meal on a date him, and the first date you two go on she gets home stuffed joking about how you nearly lost your right hand before you split the last piece of pizza you have my respect." And just as Anna's mom released me Anna and her dad came around the corner laughing, smiling, and joking to have Anna in a positive tone and Mr. Burg asked, "Is dinner ready?" "Yes, Yes, Anna could you help me serve dinner by grabbing your friend's and father's plates for me?" Mrs. Burg said happily. As we all maneuvered to the dining room table.

I took the seat to the left of Mr. Burg, right of Mrs. Burg, and across from Anna. Now Anna's mom by far had the largest potion out of the four of us and I could see why Mrs. Burg was not a thin woman any more. I cracked a playful smile, for which Ann's dad asked me slightly annoyed, "Why are you smiling and giggling to yourself?" I composed myself and then said as best as I could "I was just looking at you and your wife. I see Anna go her mother's stunning looks, figure, kind personality, and her appetite; and Anna go her intelligence, wittiness, and loyalty from her wonderful father." Now for most people that would be some heavy-handed buttering up, but Anna giggled when I said that and her mother started laughing with her father smiling for a few minutes as we dug into our meals.

We talked and talked and talked for what had to be four hours. I even got Mr. Burg to laugh because I said to him. "I noticed you have a scare on the back of your hand; last Friday I nearly got a matching one from Anna when I reached for the last slice of pizza. So, I presume that was from an early pizza date with a young Mrs. Burg?" Anna's face went blood red as her mother looked at her and her father laughed a bit and said in his German accent "No it was from work a few weeks back, but I can see why you would assume that." The rest of the night was filled with that witty banter until Mr. Burg asked solemnly "So how did you first meet Anna?" I readjusted my position in my chair and looked him in the eye's and said "Well that would be from our engineering class sophomore year, but an incident led to me distancing myself from her until just last Friday night; though I would elaborate it is not my place to discuss those details."

Anna's dad repositioned himself to look at me and said slightly angered "why can't you elaborate?" I gulped and said with slight agitation, "I helped her with a project before Christmas break and Andrew Richard or as I affectionally know him as Big Muscles Small Dickie threatened to beat my face in, but since I had the entire respect of every student and teacher in the Engineering department He was in my dominion for which I told him to move along, and said to Anna that hugging me for helping her with the project was wrong and never should be done again. That is how we met." He and his wife almost in perfect unison looked at each other and Mrs. Burg said after patting her lips with her napkin, "so you aren't friends with Andrew then?" I changed my position to look at her and said solemnly "A long time ago it could be said we were two brothers in arms fighting off the bullies being the hero's, but now on the same field we fought shoulder to shoulder we now are on opposite sides sadly." An awkward silence fell upon the table as Anna's parents looked at each other in deep contemplation on what I had just said and Anna looked upon me as if I was now a different person.

Then to break said silence I said playfully "Usually I evoke this same type of silence when I start talking politics and say I am a Republican at a party." The table burst into laughter for the second and final time for the night as I helped clear the table with Anna's dad so that I could repay them for such a good evening. As I was scrubbing one of the plates I made the comment to Ann's dad "You know out of all the dinners I have go to with parents it was the least interrogation like out of all of them." He chuckled a bit to himself and then said in a joking tone "Well you did better than Dickie to impress me tonight." That in turn got some chucking out of me. Once We finished I walked to the living room where Anna and her mother were sitting next to each other talking amongst themselves. Anna said as she looked at me "Matt why don't you stay a bit longer we were planning on putting on a movie?" I said slightly somberly to joking "I would enjoy that, but I think we have had an amazing night and I don't want to blow it now." I shook Mr. Burg hand as I said good bye to him, hugged Mrs. Burg; and when I went to hug Anna she first playfully jabbed me in the shoulder and kissed me for a few seconds on the lips and pulled back and said in her absolutely beautiful voice "You know what you meeting my parents means?" I was a bit lost what she meant and stupidly asked, "what?" She put her pointer finger on my lips and said very seductively "We are officially a couple." And before I could protest she kissed me for another few seconds as a I glanced at the confessed faces of both her parents because the obviously heard her. So, once we were done kissing I grabbed my coat and waved good bye. It would be the beginning of a beautiful relationship, but there would be one massive road block that would nearly end this story before it began.
