FOUR MONTHS LATER...

“No more procrastinating, Kate” she thought to herself. “You’ve really got to go buy a scale today.”

As the hot water of the shower rained down on her, Kate absent-mindedly rinsed the soap from her body. She was clearly preoccupied by other matters.

Over the last few months, Kate’s body had changed a lot. She had gained a good amount of weight. She knew she was getting a little heavier, but it hadn’t really dawned on her just how much she had gained until a few days ago. A friend of hers from high school had sent her an email with a picture of the two of them in their soccer uniforms. Kate immediately noticed how thin she looked in the picture. The next time she looked in the mirror, she realized that she had gained more than she thought. Since she got that email, she had become obsessed with her weight gain.
