Chapter 1 - new job, new lifestyle

It's Monday, and Jared was beginning a new job with a slightly unusual arrangement. His position is located at a mine far away from his home, so he has to fly into the site on weekdays, then fly out for the weekends. In order to compensate for the inconvenience, the company provides unlimited food options, a gym, and private rooms for staying overnight during the week.

Jared was pretty excited about these arrangements. He could dive into his work, not have to worry about cooking or commuting, and he'd still have gym access so he could maintain his physique.

A little note about Jared's physique - Jared is CUT. Out of his entire group of friends, he's easily the most fit with the best body. He's always been this way. Years of training, eating right, and staying active have rewarded him with a perfect body. It's all anyone around him has ever known. It's even inspired some of his friends to work out.

On the flight to the mine, Jared sat next to a new coworker named Matt. Matt also had a great physique, but with maybe a little extra pudge than Jared had. Matt had been working there for several months, so Jared was excited to ask all about what to expect. Matt said it was long hours, but good work. He said the employees were treated well, and the amenities were amazing. There was a good sense of camaraderie amongst everyone. And the food, the food was amazing. Matt joked that everyone there gets the FIFO 5. Jared laughed - "Is that like the Freshman 15?" Matt looked down at his own little belly and chuckled, "Yep, not quite as bad, but it shows up a bit. Just 5 kilos, or 11 pounds. FIFO is fly in, fly out, so it's just catchy. It's happened to enough of us that we had to name it. As long as you work out and don't go crazy like I did, I'm sure you'll be totally fine. You look fit as hell, so I'm sure you know what you're doing."

Satisfied with that answer, Jared sat back for the rest of the flight, thinking about this new adventure ahead of him. When he landed, he couldn't wait to see his new room, the grounds, and the food situation.

But Jared had no idea what was to come in just a few short hours.
