New beginnings

chapter 3

As the week progressed, Ian realised that he was the only slim person working in the office. The secretaries were all overweight and one or two were quite obese. He was not surprised. They often ordered a take out lunch, they baked cakes and scones for everyone. There was always a big tin of sweets and chocolates to share and possibly a tin of biscuits as well.
None of them rushed about much. They were too busy oozing out of their tight clothing to do anything too energetic.
Towards the end of the week, he saw one of the psychologists. She was not just obese, she was morbidly obese. She wore clothes to hide her size, but she had to be a size 20 or more. Ordinarily, he might not have noticed her size, but he was still trying to get used to working in an office like this, where it was the norm to eat all day every day and everyone carried too much weight.
He did not meet his boss until Friday morning. He'd spoken to him though the week several times on the intercom, but not actually met. Now he was summoned into the office and consultation room. He was greeted by a man who was truly immense! He excused himself for not getting up, but extended a pudgy hand towards him. He was three times the size of a normal man! His neck barely existed, he simply had a huge ring if fat between his head and his chest. His upper arms were as wide as his waist and rested on thick pads of fat on his sides. He was wearing a shirt that must have been especially made, but even so Ian could see he had flabby tissue across his chest forming man - boobs that drooped down and rested on his belly. His belly was so big that he had to sit with his legs wide apart to accommodate it as it hung down almost to the floor. He was sitting on an armless chair to accommodate his large round buttocks and thighs.
Ian found it difficult not to stare. His boss was by far the fattest man he had ever seen! Ian was appalled that someone could let themselves go like this. He was nauseous just thinking about how many calories a man like this got through every day.
But how could anyone run a psychology practice who was that fat? It was a bad example to clients. He presumed many if them would be keen to lose weight. A man like the one sitting in front of him showed a lack of willpower, poor discipline and an inability to make the right choices in life. He was bound to suffer a whole host of illnesses caused by his lack of exersise and his calorie excesses. Diabetes, heart disease, joint problems all sprung into his mind.
Ian was so busy staring and making assumptions that he nearly missed what his boss was saying.
"I'd like to welcome you to the company by taking you out to lunch". He said
Ian accepted the invitation, then wished he'd turned him down. It didn't bode well going out with a man that massive. It would invite stares from other diners. Ian could do without that kind of attention.
Then again, he couldn't refuse his boss could he? What would he think if him? He needed to make a good impression. It was still only his first week. He wondered if he could get away with ordering just a salad.
