Gaining

Impatient or wrong?

I started doing a calorie surplus about 5 days ago and am wondering if it's not enough or if I'm just being impatient. I calculated my TDEE and it said that my current maintenance should be around 2,100 calories and my current goal is hitting about 4,000 calories per day to start and I'll adjust as I go. I haven't changed my diet much apart from supplementing extra calories but so far my weight has stayed the same. I'm assuming I'm just being impatient but I'm wanting to hear other people's thoughts on this?

Impatient or wrong?

It may be a level of impatience. Just pumping a lot of food in doesn't mean you're able to actually fully digest and process all of it.

Could have to do with gut health, muscle and bone mass, and what specifically you are eating. If its all empty macronutrient and very little micronutrient, then you're getting materials but not enough of the other things that facilitate the internal chemistries. Not that one needs to eat enough brussel sprouts to OD on vitamin A, but more... there is more that goes into this than increasing calories.

Hope that helps?

Impatient or wrong?

I think so? I'm not super knowledgeable about nutrition but I know I'm not eating that unhealthy, same meals I usually would make but larger portions and such, supplementing calories using nuts or greek yoghurts. Trying to be healthy about it as I gain but I just assumed after a few days something would have happened.

Your body may have to acclimate to the extra calories. Bodies seek equilibrium, and when gaining you're intentionally messing with that equilibrium, so there is always gonna be an initial inertial resistance.
