Agreed. I think you'll find getting fit will be more beneficial the just losing weight, people tend to lose the weight without doing anything about thier fitness and inevitably gain it all back and have no health benefits to show for all that work.

When does it get in the way

Google HAES (Health at Every Size), if you really want to be more healthy. As has been paointed out, dieting does more damage than being big.
