You see someone in chat that seems interesting, go check out their profile and forum entries and everything, go back to chat and...they're gone.

I know, I hate when I go and do lots of research on someone instead of contacting them and then I can't talk to them immediately. It's horrible.

I'd personally rather strike up a convo BEFORE stalking their profile page...
