There are polite ways to be assertive and impolite ways. I have nothing wrong with people stating their opinions. But if someone is sarcastic or nasty, they may turn off people, even those who fit their criteria.

I agree they're off-putting. And I've seen several profiles on here lately that are like this. Buuuut, you have to think from the perspective of the poster, especially if they're a woman. New female users get totally bombarded with messages, and this something I've seen female members use as a coping mechanism to try and cut down on the number of people contacting them.
