If getting used to doing things without confidence gives the appearance of confidence, then I suppose getting older does.
For along time though, and to a certain degree, I haven't gone along with all the "hype" about confidence.

For me,
I felt worse as I entered my thirties, and gradually less confident until I hit forty.
Then I thought 'sod it' and started doing things to make myself love 'me' a lot more.
Now ages 45, I am probably more confident than I have ever been in my life so far.
Yes, sex is fabulous too, especially now my girlfriend has got fatter over the years, yum
