I'm going to be looking for a small car next year and wondered what's best for someone over 20 stone (280lbs).Anyone have any recommendations based on experience?

Honda Jazz has lots of room for a small car. Good for tall people too. Plenty of headroom. My wife has one and she's a 21 stone 5 foot 6.

My wife is short and round and she drives a Peugeot. This brand has the pedals a bit closer to the seat or the steeringwheel a bit further from the seat.. Peugeot has more bellyspace than my Kia....

Yes but for my wife it is not the matter how far the driversseat can go to the back, but if she can reach the pedals when her belly touches the steering wheel. And with that in mind, the Peugeot fits her better...
