Bf wants to lose weight and i dont know how to feel about it...

Hi,
So well, my bf wants to lose weight because of his health (thats perfectly fine ofc, its his body after all) Its just that it looks like its gonna be more "drastic" then I expected and I just dont know how to feel about my feelings towards it.
I mean sure its great for his health and hell be more active and people will apreciate him more and everyone is gonna be happy and stuff... it just doesnt feel like I could be happy like that. I never imagined being with someone thin, not even with that lifestyle. Im way happier about bingewatching Netflix then going on bike and swimming and stuff.
I dont wanna discurage him because, again, his body, his health, but it feels like everything will change like this. I dont wanna lose otherwise nice relationship because of something as secondary as fetish, but well... i guess you all know that being obese has impact on your life all together.
Im just scared that its not going to be just his looks thats gonna change, Please tell me Im not the only one who thinks like this :"smiley or do you have similar experiances?

You definitely have my sympathy as well. The thing is, dieting only leads to actual weight loss for about 5% of the population. So he might lose weight short term, but has a 95% chance of gaining it all back within 5 years and he will absolutely slow his metabolism. If he’s actually just exercising and eating more healthy foods in a way that isn’t restrictive or overdoes the exercise, his weight isn’t very likely to change much. Dieting (that is, restricting food access) is actually really bad for our physical bodies as well as our mental health. I don’t think it would be out of bounds to educate him on this. He’s probably suffering in a lot of ways he doesn’t realize because diet culture is so pervasive. I would recommend the podcast Food Psych, she’s a nutritionist that goes into detail about health and fat bodies, as well as eating disorders. To me, if he already has someone who loves him and is attracted to him, wth is the point of trying to lose weight? If it’s really about health, it’s going to be more about adding vegetables and exercise, not about weight loss.

Thank you so much for the tip. Yeah were both aware of the weight jumping back (as it happened to him already) then again hes toping 370lbs and after the lockdown he lost some muscles. At first I thought he wants to go to his pre-corona body but well.. looks like he has had enought of people being bitches.
Its definitely about vegetable and vitamins and stuff, Ive been at nutritionist myself because of other problems so Im trying to go from what she told me and figure out the best way for him to lose weight... Its so hard to do it though hes so cute fluffy

BHMZach:
Tell him you like him big and that he doesn’t have to lose weight for you, also let him now that health and size aren’t opposed.

Oh, he knows. He sorta likes it too but he got too big for how active he wants to be.
