I feel like there is some correlation/crossover between mukbang and feedism. In essence they are the same thing: deriving pleasure from watching someone eat. There are however different motivations behind each, and each may well end in differing results.
It seems like mukbang sort of falls under the ASMR brand of content. Something about it, I guess, is supposed to be relaxing or comforting somehow to people. Its funny when you think about it, there was a time when most people would come home at the end of a long day and have dinner with their family while they talk about their day. Maybe a lot of people just don't have that kind of connection anymore, and maybe the mukbang videos are a way of finding that again?
In any case, I do find myself drawn toward some mukbang videos, as well as other ASMR videos, in probably more of a sexual way than was maybe intended or than what most people might think. I don't know if I am alone in this (I would guess not) but there are some of those girls who whisper and smack their lips that really get me hot - like they have to know how sexy that is, right? lol
But with the mukbang videos, some of the people I see doing that are pretty cute and pretty sexy, but the emphasis is definitely NOT on the food or the eating, the fullness or the fatness as much as it would be in straight ahead feedism content. I often find myself a little disappointed at the end of the videos at how little they actually ate. So much talking, not enough chewing and swallowing. lol
Anyway, its an interesting question, one that I've wondered about myself in the past. Maybe both feedism and mukbang have the same appeal at their core, only we feedists have found a way to sexualize/fetishize something that others just find modestly pleasant or satisfying.
