When to weigh

Hi,

I have been large for the past many years. I was about 230 when I met my boyfriend 2.5 years ago. In recent months I have gotten bigger and my clothes are showing it. My boyfriend thought it would be fun to do a weekly weigh in just to monitor my growth “for fun.” He seemed to love the idea so I went along with it. It seems like I am gaining a lot faster than I thought. Any thoughts? The numbers just keep going up which leads me to pig out even more.

When to weigh

I weigh every morning before eating or drinking, and sadly it's not for a fun reason. I'm a heart patient, and any fluctuation (Not a pound or two, but if I suddenly went from 573 to 583 the next day) can indicate a serious problem.

That said, I got this fat by stuffing and eating thousands of calories everyday. I found that daily weigh-ins could be deceiving when I was gaining because sometimes, I just had a belly full of several pounds of food. I got the truest look at my gain week to week, Wednesday mornings, on an empty tummy. This worked for me, because a weekend stuffing could easily jack my weight up 10 to 15 lb by Monday, but I typically didn't go too wild on Mondays and Tuesdays.

My advice is, pick one day during the week when you've usually been at the baseline for your current eating habits for a couple of days.

I'd also weigh yourself before you eat and after you use the bathroom.

I weigh myself once a week on a empty stomach usually before/after my morning shower Monday morning.

I'd say do what works for you. If you like doing it every week that's great. If you're actively gaining, then I'm sure you look forward to the weekly weigh-ins, especially if that number is climbing. Everyone does their own thing, for their own reasons. Enjoy.
