HectorBalloon:
Heard about some guy doing this in South Korea - got obese to avoid conscription. He was somehow found out and got arrested and punished.

How could they prove that was the reason? And why wouldn’t he just make something up like I’m eating because I want to because I’m sad or some shit? Lol.

They probably got suspicious after he gained a lot of weight really quickly and investigated him.

Even if it was because of the war it’s not really prosecutable lol. War makes people sad and stressed. Sad and stressed people overeat.
Should be so easy to get out of that.

Okay, but how familiar are you with korean law? Or the laws of any country with mandatory conscription laws?

I can assure you that it is extremely prosecutorial in these countries. Especially since, you know, they did convict the guy. The issue wasn't that he was fat. The issue was that he got fat to avoid service.

I’m familiar with US law to some extent and they have mandatory conscription laws.
I agree that it’s not surprising that it’s against the law to do that to avoid service. What I am surprised by is that they were able to prove intent.
That would be very difficult to do, unless he straight up confessed that as being the reason, which, if he did… was kind of stupid I guess.

It's not as hard as you might think. You hear about these conscription dodging stories all the time in these kinds of countries.

But they were able to prove intent if you read the article.

Yeah I know I mean it’s pretty common to hear stories of people draft dodging in the US. They have my sympathy. Nobody in their right mind wants to sign up for a war, especially if they know what these wars are really about, and not just what we’re told they’re about.
