Random spikes in weight gain

Has anyone else experienced random spikes where they've put on quiet a few pounds all at once? I've been weighing myself weekly and since last Thursday I've gained 8 lbs which is quite significant for me as I've been stuck on a months long plateau.
I've been consistently eating between 3,000-4,000 calories per day for the last few months now, and haven't seen much results until now. Does anyone know what causes these plateaus and sudden spikes? I know in the long run 8 lbs isn't much but it feels like a lot to put on in a week

I don’t have the scientific answer but I know someone here will be able to provide that info. for you.

I simply would echo what you are speaking of - through my time gaining and wt easing my wife’s gaining I feel there is a window of about three weeks from the time I notice being hungrier and consuming more food and then all of a sudden three weeks later and I see the pounds finally arrive and my gut sticking out so much further and pants not fitting the same anymore.

Likewise with my wife I as an FA and so much I to weight gain on her beautiful figure kind of watch subconsciously her appetite with meals and her big sweet tooth. She always has a sweet tooth but when I see her eating more at meals and her appetite getting bigger it is usually followed by double the amount of deserts and snacks I can typically wait three weeks to see her not fitting into most of her clothing g which she happens to wear kind of tight stuff. She all of a sudden can’t button or zip up pants her cardigan sweaters are straining with her upper arms now and her bras are completely snug on the strap and she is over flowing her cups something fierce. It is a very arousing time although it is usually followed by a conscious effort on her part to cut back and try and lose so she doesn’t have to by bigger sizes in lots of her clothing.

Mostly it have something to do with your body adjusting to the amount of energy being consumed, I would go with detailed but it would make this comment too long

Lotta reasons, but it typically has to do with your hormone fluctuations.

Also, there's a non-zero chance that some of that is water weight.

I guarantee a decent amount of it is probably water weight but I have gained around 18 lbs since I moved out back in November so not all of it is water weight. I'm just excited to finally see some results

If you gained mostly after you moved out, then odds are you changed your eating habits.

There are many factors, from biological to psychological, that can keep your weight stuck. The body is not stupid and finds ways to burn excess fat to maintain weight.

In my case, like you, I had periods when I stopped at a certain weight. This includes: it resulted from the fact that I felt that the muscles needed time to get used to the new weight so as not to lose mobility dramatically.

On the other hand, now: 8 years later, after periods of gaining weight, taking breaks, gaining a total of about 170 pounds and losing about 120 pounds - I still wanted to lose weight (no matter why). During the current reduction, I have already gained almost 10 pounds. XD
