Gaining

Is weight gain permanent or what are the possible consequences

Hello, I'm interested in the following. A few years ago, I gave in to my desire to gain weight and went from 63 kg at 1.85 m to 78 kg. I eventually returned to my "normal" eating habits and then lost it back to 63 kg.

I'm currently thinking about gaining weight again, maybe a little more this time...

What I'm interested in now is, is there a point or amount of weight that you can no longer lose on your own just by eating the same diet you had before you gained weight? The weight won't go away without a deliberate diet, so to speak?

Another point was that the more weight you gain, the more new fat cells are formed. If you lose weight now, is it true that with a normal diet you almost gain weight on your own if you're not careful?

What are your experiences with this?

There is no such thing as a point of no return if you are still alive. I've seen people 600+ and heavier lose a shit ton of weight. You probably won't be the size you were at 18, but you can lose weight.

However, there comes a point where it is increasingly difficult to lose weight. And if you do not have the desire to lose it, you never will. But that point is highly subjective.

The point of no return is a quite dangerous thing because it involves addictions. I have thought and fantasized quite a bit about that. If you wanna get there, you basically wanna "burn the bridge". I guess its not too hard to form addictions and keep reinforcing them until theyre unbreakable, especially if you have a partner that will enable and even push you to do that, but be aware. Thats a pretty fucked up place to be!

Actually, your fat cells do not divide when you get fatter. They are more like balloons in that they blow up bigger and bigger as you gain weight but if you lose weight, they can shrink down. As to whether losing weight becomes more difficult once the fat cells are larger, I don't know about that and I would like to know the answer, too.

First of all, thank you for your answers.

I've researched this topic myself and found quite contradictory reports. Some people ate more and maintained their weight. This makes sense to me, given their larger stomach capacity.

Others, however, gained a little weight with cream or other high-calorie drinks and slowly lost the weight again after stopping.

There's supposedly a point, 90 kg/200 lbs (more for some due to their height), where losing weight no longer happens on its own; you really have to start actively losing weight.

The last point seems to apply to younger people (25-35) as well. Perhaps someone has experience with this...

That sounds about right for me actually. After I hit 200 going below they had taken a lot of effort.

It can be permanent however for me it's fun. Eating way too much food and clothes becoming tighter.
