SumoSized:
I mean they were recently paused so it hasn't impacted my financial situation too much. But assuming the come back in full force eventually it'll make certain foods a lot harder to get here in the US, since a lot of fruits just can't be grown here. And even if in a later version of the tariff plan food is exempted, everything else will still increase in price so I'll have less money to spend on overeating. Across the board tariffs are a bad idea, anyone who tries to convince you otherwise is a lunatic

Shit like this makes me think of the Maduro diet. For those not in the know, back in 2010, Venezuelans were having severe food shortages under President Maduro due to his gross incompetence.

I'm not saying it will be that bad for us, but I foresee many feedees and gainers slimming down - no Ozempic needed.

God I hope not, but who knows with this president. For all we know in a years time the tariffs will be the least of our problems

Every day since 11/06/2024, I question my decision to raw dog life sober.

Kitsune:
I should give up internet life. It screws up my mental health and makes me want to throw away my phone. I am going to try to read more books and watch more shows. All this doom and gloom makes me suicidal.

Wishing you well.

Morbidly A Beast:
there’s enough demand in the American market any importer will pay reluctantly at a loss, the importer could hike prices all they want it would only increase the tax.

there are going to be people who say import taxes are justifying price increases merely to make profit it’s economical.

I mean, kudos to you if you can take the hit, but that's not a lot of people. And RIP to the small businesses that are failing specifically because of the tariffs.

We also lack the infrastructure to manufacture all the overseas products here. It will take years, over a decade in some cases. If he wanted to create more American jobs by forcing businesses to operate over here, this is the worst way to do it.

The wealthy will always find ways to stay wealthy. They will probably be fine in the long term concerning the tariffs. But the average American? Not so much.

Throughout the history of capitalism, its dynamic center has shifted. There has never been a succesful attempt to stop this, by any country/region that it was leaving from.

I think the only way in which America could get out of this is by building a huge worker coop sector, which will certainly not move anywhere, but the sociopaths running the country will have none of it.

How will a huge worker coop help us in a service based debt economy?

A huge worker coop *sector*.

It would alter the very conditions that led you to a service based debt economy in the first place!

For example instead of corporations abandoning workers in your country (which are then left to rot), you would have democratic control of industry by said workers. And, guess what, they would NEVER fire themselves in order to move the production elsewere. You also dont need to start from scratch, the US already has vast amounts of industrial machinery that is simply gathering rust and dust in the moment.
