Id say still continue lifting and maybe a little bit of cardio to carry the weight easier. There are many heavyset people that are crazy athletic despite their size so you dont need to completely abandon that.

I will suggest that to my nearly 600 pound wife, whose belly apron hangs down her knees as she waddles from room to room gasping for breath 🙄

Yes that would be a nice thing to suggest to her, since it seems like mobility is an issue for her. You don't have to lose weight to be healthier. It's possible to help her build up strength and endurance so she has an easier time navigating without the use of mobility aids. Obviously she's at the extreme end of the scale at 600 lbs so she's not going to be crazy athletic like Serph described. But as a loving husband you should want to help make her life easier
