Hey all! This is a cry for help for all the DIY sewing people out there!
Some backstory:
I've struggled for a LONG time with trying to get lower-half padding that looks realistic. You can see from my pics that I have the belly down, but with tight-ish clothes it's immediately obvious that it's padding, since my waist, hips, butt, & legs are all very normal-sized in comparison.
My best attempt at lower-half padding was when I followed this guide (fantasyfeeder.com/forum/posts), involving layers of tights and polyfil stuffing -- it looks *really* good, but there are still problems with the setup that make it to where I don't even want to deal with it.
The MAIN drawbacks are:
1). It takes a long time to put it together. Even if you've done it several times and have the process down, it just takes time to get the stuffing to look how you like. It would take me anywhere from 30min to 1hr to get it to where I liked it, which really eats into the time set aside to enjoy wearing the padding!
2). You can't take it off without ruining the look. If you take it off, the stuffing gets all clumped together and you're back to 1) again. So if you're like me and like to wear the padding for hours at a time, you *really* have to time your potty breaks just right b/c you have to take it all the way off just to pee!
3). After some time, the stuffing migrates. Either from sitting down for a while, or from the rhythmic motion of walking, etc, the stuffing moves around inside the leggings and doesn't look *just right* anymore. I end up spending a lot more time trying to find mirrors to double check that my butt's not lopsided, lol.
So what to do about this problem? Well, I want to make my own fat-pants. Pants that already have stuffing "built-in", so that I can just pull them on, layer some shapewear over top to smooth it out, get dressed, and be on my way! I have a sewing machine, but I have NO idea how to sew things. But I DO have an idea for the "fat-pants"!
To do this, I figured I'd get cheap cloth pants from Walmart, like $10 joggers or PJ pants or w/e, and a big bag of polyfil stuffing.
I was thinking I'd take out a set of seams, like the inside seams on the legs and then the vertical seam on either the front or back of the crotch so the pants can be laid flat in a single layer.
I'd do that for both pairs of pants, lay one on top of the other, then sew the 2 pairs together. Stuff polyfil in between the layers (and sew diamond-patterns over the polyfil like in a duvet or winter coat so that the stuffing doesn't migrate), and then finally sew the seams I cut initially back together.
Like I said earlier, the biggest problem is that I don't know much at all about sewing!
Do you guys think this sounds do-able? Or do y'all have any other ideas, tips, or tricks?
