Ai generated content, yay or nay?

ScandinavianFA:
Lately I have been noticing a huge uptick in content (usually videos) that is clearly AI created. I’m not sure I like it. On one side you *can* create some pretty good stuff if you know what you’re doing but on the other hand most of it is just the usual AI slop, IMO. It also takes away most of the erotic impact, knowing that this is not a real person gaining weight etc. It feels oddly empty and disconnected, and unfortunately there seems to be more and more of it. YouTube has gotten especially bad. What are your thoughts, do you agree or disagree?

Also, sorry if this has been discussed before.

No, its not for me. Its just weird, soulless and empty. 👎

Souless and empty sums it up for me, too.

Forget about the creepy imagry for a minute, let me focus on writing: The selection of individual words in the creation of a (mental) image is what writing is all about. When you read my stories, know that I put those sentences together for a purpose. I was driven to do so. What you are reading is ME, it is my mind, my imagination.

A.I. is just a random selection of (stolen) terms and sentence structures that has gone through some kind of grammar check (which MS Word has had for over 25 years, so that ain't new). It's an imitation and a regurgitation.

The Wicked Pear:
I think a lot of the authors of any content need to remember that AI it a tool to assist in your creation

As someone who has been writing for over 20 years, respectfully, no.

If what you refer to, as AI, is Large Language Models, then they are a very bad tool. There is a very good talk which explains what constitutes a good tool:

What matters are purpose, context, and responsibility. People set the goals, choose the training data, and decide how outputs are used. So you can't simply be "for" or "against" AI; the real question is where its use delivers clear benefit and where risks, misuse, or discrimination outweigh the gains.

Those who use AI deliberately and skillfully amplify their abilities: it becomes a productivity, analysis, and creativity multiplier. Those who use it only to confirm existing biases or to shortcut critical thinking stagnate or worsen problems. What matters is education, digital literacy, transparent rules, and responsible governance — not the technology itself.

We are talking about generative AI. And in that case, it's pretty straightforward - especially for the creative types.
