Metformin plateau?

Hi guys, question for the diabetics here…

I got put on metformin in spring, joining the type 2 club, and it immediately made me lose 20-25lbs in weeks. Nothing else changed. My blood sugar went to “ok”, so I’m happy about that.

Since then however I’ve been unable to gain a pound despite trying for weeks on end. Is that the general experience on this drug?

It is not unusual for you to lose weight on metformin. However, there are many feedees on metformin that gain.

With that said, I'd recommend going about regaining slowly. Your body hasn't been stable for long, and it would be a shame to lose that progress due to wreckers behavior.

Yeah you’re not wrong but it’s hard to ignore the gainer bug/desire haha.

My weight is just so incredibly stable and I’m just curious if this will evolve. Or if I should be drinking cream ;-)

The jury is still out on whether cream is good or bad for diabetics. I generally tell people to do what feels right for them in that regard.

However, I wouldn't overdo it on the cream. Diabetes puts you at an elevated risk for high blood pressure. I do not know if you already have that, but bear in mind that too much heavy cream will spike your triglyceride levels.

Besides, heavy cream is best when it's not the main ingredient. I highly recommend cooking with it instead of just drinking it. After all, it's not the heavy cream itself that makes you gain weight so much as it primes your body for weight gain. The star of the show is what you eat outside of the heavy cream.

You really should consider writing the book on this smiley

Thanks for the response! I’ll stick it out and see how it goes. And just layer on foods.
