I've used a funnel many times.
A very big one is helpful (mine has 4 liters of volume!), and something to attach it to a high point (zip ties against shower hose holder).
Then I have about 2m of hose, so I can use it while standing or kneeling in front of it.
To stretch out to the max, I prefer soup (small noodles, quite watery - or rice) or yoghurt/milk rice (some water added to make it flow).
I start with thick stuff, and make it thinner (watery) towards the end as it's easier to gulp.
With the long hose, it's possible to "pause" by hanging it up higher than the funnel. So it's not messy at all.
The diameter of the hose that I'm using is about 20mm. That's still small enough to put into the mouth, but big enough that the noodles go through without clogging.
A nice thing with the big funnel is that it motivates to empty it if there is only a bit left

That can stretch you to the limit, and sometimes "close to beyond".
