To me it feels like people who are Conservative (especially those who have Christian beliefs) really seem to have quite a big no no when it comes to fat people. Especially when they are calling them “disgusting creatures”. Not to mention how it’s often a lot of anti-woke crowd really love to slam and burn up body positivity, especially now more than ever since its peak went downhill.

So I guess for the sake of this post is that is there any notable conservative who is fairly open minded about fat people and not vilifying them?? Or if not that if there’s anyone here who IS conservative I’d like to hear your thoughts.

(btw. I’m not a political person by nature I’m only talking from what I have been noticing)

I do kind of worry this line of thinking has to do with feederism being tied to the LGBT+ community and the stereotyped disdain that American Conservatives (stereotyped as being more straight) have towards American Liberals (stereotyped as being more in the LGBT+ community). At the end of the day, political affiliation means very little - it's the behavior of the person that means the most. Generalizing a large group's behavior is rather reductive.
Do correct me if I'm wrong though! I also am politically unaffiliated, so I'm just rebounding of what I took from this statement. Would love to start a dialogue and get a stronger sense of what you mean.

It’s a thing. RFK jr coding right is a symbol of it and the parallel shift in the health and fitness influence culture taking a sharp rightward turn. And CrossFit. That’s always been far right. But you can go back more than a generation to see conservative pundits arguing against socialized healthcare because of all the fat people who would mess it up for everyone, so of course it can’t be done. Or saying SNAP (or other entitlements) should be cut because you can buy (insert kind of problematic food) and people who qualify for assistance are fat or might become fat or should just be living in austerity anyways because they’re fat. They might also mean “and women and minorities” but they usually feel ok about saying the fat part.

Thanks for letting me know! I'm still very new to this lifestyle so I'm learning the ins and outs of what's too taboo to talk about 😅 Thanks for clarifying! I'm trying to stay as far away from hot topics of debate and conversation and stay as unbiased/unaffiliated as possible... I know that's quite a privileged thing to say, but I'm choosing to use this space as some place safe for me not to worry about such topics. I guess I didn't quite think that through before responding. Sorry, and thanks again.

you didn’t do anything wrong! Some anti fat bias is as old as the hills, but I think some of it is newer, too. The health and fitness/wellness industries being swallowed up by political, right wing voices is newer. It used to be more diffused. Still political, maybe.

I never though I'd "both sides" any topic, but this may be the exception. Political leanings don't seem to have anything to do with body preferences. There are all types on both sides here in the U.S.

Im sure many others have said it and I think most communities build around enjoying fat are overwhelmingly liberal and radical left. I for one don't consider myself conservative but am generally pretty right wing. I just like very fat women. Simple as, I don't see any problems with it. But, it doesn't matter who, someone who makes politics their personality and brings it up non stop is the worst kind of person and most unattractive.

I get what he’s saying. And I agree it would VERY interesting to meet a feedee/fat acceptance/body positivity activist, particularly one that is a woman or one that identifies as a woman that is also conservative. I’m curious, myself. Haha

I've met quite a few IRL, actually.

What other people are saying, about the fattest states in America being the most conservative, is true. There's a spectrum of beliefs about this issue among the conservatives I know, though. Yes, some of them view it through the lens of "personal responsibility" and are silently judging us. But then it turns others on. I think that, being that the conservative states are the fattest, conservatives have to think about it more, which makes them have a wider and more intensely-felt range of views on the issue. Sure, liberals have written more theory on it, but the issue doesn't affect most of them quite as much, one way or another, on average.

And since Christianity was brought up in the original post... sure, some churches oppose it. But in most of the ones I've been in, the potlucks after church are where most of them are getting fat in the first place. Wide range of views, yet again. Most American churches do not seem to take the issue seriously, even though gluttony is listed as one of the seven deadly sins.
