What did you miss about the old technology/media?

Having the boxes on my shelf and looking at the cover art is something I miss with going digital.

Also specifically for some cartridge games the special color cartridges that would be put out for certain titles. Always loved how the pokemon ruby, sapphire, and emerald cartridges looked

KlondikeBar:
I miss the concept of renting VHS and DVD's. There used to be a Blockbuster near our neighborhood when I was a kid. We would occasionally rent VHS tapes until eventually the DVD player became more prioritized. My family rented DVD's from the library, Safeway, and Hollywood Video.

Harleen Zaftig:
I'm actually just about to purchase a record player and casette/CD player that can also export the media into digital format...

Honestly, it's a gift for someone else, but I cannot wait to listen to the quirks of the older media formats.

I remember reading this quote, let's see if I can find it:

.... Well, I couldn't find it. But it was something along the lines of "The flaws of a technology become its greatest feature, retroactively."

I can't wait for the scratchy records and having to rewind the casettes.

The skippy CDs will still drive Me crazy, I'm sure, but in a warm way.

If I may ask, which model are you getting?

I've been looking into getting a relatively cheap tape player/recorder for the odd thing e.g. archiving, retro computers, etc.

What did you miss about the old technology/media?

I miss cassette players and getting all my music for free by recording it from the radio.

Listening to my portable CD player on the bus.

Then being able to burn my own CDs.

When we had LPs there was a huge area for cover art. Then CDs shrink it down but I suppose now we can play the music video for online music.

One good thing about the popularity of streaming is that you can get DVDs super cheap ($1-3) at Goodwill or Salvation Army. I used to spend a hundred bucks a visit at Best Buy in the early 2000s and yesterday I spent $16 on four movies plus a TV show.

I miss the recording from the radio to tape. Finding the section on the tape right before the "talking". Coping the tape with quality loss but still being the boy with the top tapes.
