Gaining

Macros

I am a fat guy looking to get fatter. Every time I'm in a gaining phase, I focus on fast food and junk. This time is no different. I've said dozens of times that I need to be smarter about it.

I want to shift my strategy (again, I know I've said that before). I'm planning on finding a plan that prioritizes macros - not just calories.

There are plenty of calculators out there showing what one should eat to gain/lose/maintain. They are wildly different from one another. Plus most of them focus on being lean.

In the end, I know the biggest factor is just calories in and calories out. But how do we know what is right for each of us? Is it a matter of trial and error? Seeing what works and what doesn't?

When I try eating better (mainly for losing), I look at labels a bit more, but not still not in great detail. What is a good ratio of Protein/Carbs/Fat - especially for wanting to get fatter? Does the ratio change as you get bigger?

Yes, it's absolutely trial and error and yes, the calorie needs increase as your weight increases.

Those calculators can be way off.

You'll need a certain ammount of calories to maintain each weight.

Even when you get to a goal weight, your body wants to go back down.
For example my goal was 250 but I raised it to 275 because I'll probably need to get to 275 for my body to be comfortable and normalize at 250.

Eating different sugars helps to release insulin but the calories have to keep coming regardless.

Thanks! I am just past 275...which was my goal. Now aiming for 300. I like your advice to raise the goal so that your initial goal becomes normalized.

Side note: I haven't gotten off junk/fast food lol

Don't worry about the "junk food" label people have given it.

If you eat 1000 calories of snacks vs 1000 calories of pasta....Your body is either going to store it as glucose in the blood stream, glycogen, or store it as fat, no matter what it came in as.

I think the people getting caught up in good carbs vs bad carbs are trying to distract from some health problem they have going on which always stems from inactivity.......which is very useful to gain the weight they wanted to gain in the first place🤭🤷🏾‍♂️😆

Just keep eating💪🏽

I'm trying to catch up😆

In past gains I have gotten to the point of not feeling great. It's often why I eventually lose some of the weight. Yo-yoing back and forth. One of these days I'll do it right and gain healthier...or not hahaha.

Regardless, I want to be big. My new goal is 300. If I get there and then settle back to a consistent 275, I'd be okay with that. But I'd also be good with staying at 300.

Good luck with your gain! There's nothing I like more than seeing the numbers on the scale go up and grow out of clothes.

You've got this.💪🏽

Maybe when you get to the point of feeling uncomfortable, just slow down a little.
