Advice for consistent/permanent gains

For someone who's not naturally big, how do you maintain consistency enough to get and stay big?

I started to intentionally gain some in 2024 and took a slight break and started to do it again at the end of 2024 and the start of 2025 and was up to around 175ish pounds. However, things got really crazy in my life and I'm still in recovery mode to some extent and I'm currently down around 30 pounds at 145ish pounds.

I was wondering what advice people would have for intentionally gaining to get big and stay big, especially when they're body isn't naturally predisposed to being huge? Specifically, looking for tips that would be easily sustainable and easy to be consistent with and not regress.
When I do want to intentionally go all in on gaining again, I want to make sure I get fat (ideally much larger than my high weight of 176ish pounds) and stay that size without if feeling like too much work to maintain. I don't want to backslide again and want to ideally get myself to "point of no return" territory if I go all in again.

It's about allowing your routine habits to change, I think. Slowly is probably best, esp if you were thin for a long time. You just want your "new normal" amount of food you eat to increase. Any amount works, whatever feels comfortable and sustainable. You're now a person who eats one more slice of pizza than before, every time now. If you think about it in those terms, you can somewhat control the speed of your own gain per your own comfort level (oversimplifying because bodies work differently, but generally speaking, eat more per week on average than before = weigh more.. )

From experience though, you might only need to get over the first hurdle. once you clear the 30 lbs and keep them on, I mostly haven't had to think about it at all.. the "new normal" just becomes, "eat what feels good". So, semi-deliberately / mostly unplanned, I've gained between between 12-18 lbs a year since I decided to be deliberate for the first pounds. If you're even here though, you likely already know the answer to whether it's worth that inevitability smiley

From someone who was very thin.

Its not easy.

Every meal I eat, I eat until I'm slightly uncomfortably full.

I had to avoid the scale until I saw physical changes. I kept getting frustrated. I only check the scale every 1-2 months now.


You MUST drink sugary drinks throughout the day to keep your body secreting insulin. That puts your body in storage mode.

If you work, you MUST bring lunch. Buying lunch to keep up with an increasing ammount of calorie needs over a period of years is expensive.

You MUST force yourself to eat breakfast. You've been fasting for hours.

You MUST eat right before you go to sleep.

You MUST be consistent.
