Fat as a choice

Currently a majority percentage of the population are overweight or obese. Most of these people are what I call accidentally fat. They got that way through no conscious choice or effort, but rather the slow accumulation from junk diet, lack of exercise, and a slew of metabolic problems inherent to modern society.
In the past, medical intervention for obesity has been risky and often ineffective. Now we're in a new era of GLP-1s that promises to keep getting better. Weight loss through pills and injection treatments is becoming common. Even people who wouldn't have previously qualified for bariatric treatments and surgery are able to easily and casually go on ozympic, etc. to lose 20 pounds or more. In the last six months I've seen so many people on these things. People who I thought would never lose weight and just live forever being obese.
They didn't have the motivation to lose weight before because it wasn't easy. Well, now it's easy for many. And I suspect even a number of body positive individuals who formerly embraced their fat figures will also decide to jump on the bandwagon and lose weight. After all, it's "easy" now.
So maybe in the future, the only fat people left will be those who have truly chosen this as a lifestyle.

Fat as a choice

Ozempic is pretty expensive, so people who can't afford it will also be fatter on average.

And because of the Trump-Greenland thing, it's entirely possible that the price of Ozempic skyrockets in America due to punitive tariffs on Denmark. Alternately, it could plummet if he decides to just seize the patent and make it here.

Everyone should live in the body they want to inhabit, but if there's a lot less fat people in the world, bariatric medical research will slow, and basically be replaced with "just take Ozempic" and that would be terrible IMHO.

I also suspect that if the world you describe comes to be, that the fat people left will become increasingly fetishized. Ozempic won't have decreased the number of feeders and fat admirers in the world, but it will have decreased the number of targets for their affections. It's entirely possible that fat people become stigmatized in public, but end up as rockstars in private.

It could go all kinds of ways. The future is a ball of putty in our hands.

Fat as a choice

As a lifelong FA, Feeder, WG fan it kind of bums me out. The place that I hang out 3 to 4 afternoons a week for happy-hour used to have a beautiful blonde owner that's still pear shaped n chubby, but has lost 70 pounds. 5 other staff have all lost large amounts of weight 😭😢 All of them are on injections. They're all happy now smiles and all. New clothes, etc.

I'm happy for their happiness and it's a bummer not having all the 210 to 380 pound cuties from behind the bar & server's to admire n dream fun thoughts about being with em šŸ•šŸ•šŸ„µ

Fat as a choice

Interesting post because I do have talks with myself about this particular subject whenever it’s brought up.

Do I think that being fat is a choice? Well it certainly CAN be for some people. I know that there’s quite a bit of nuance for the matter of subject, especially if we are talking about genetics to thyroid things and other factors for how some people grew up being on the bigger side without having much choice.

However when it comes to doing something about it when it comes down to losing weight or choosing not to lose weight, that’s where it becomes a choice (heck I even just said so). Heck I’m fairly certain that people who are into the feedism community should know that we choose to have this particular type of preference.

As a dude who is into bigger women I can relate to say that it’s a bit of a pity that we’re getting into an era of the popularity of GLP-1s and how that we’re going back to the times of thinness is the pinnacle of health. Especially when I did felt like some people that I believed who embraced being plus size only to suddenly change and left some people feeling betrayed. Some people will argue that we got to this point BECAUSE of body positivity and how some also say that GLP-1s exposed some of the BP influencers as grifters. Especially now that it’s pretty much easy access for losing weight.

And look if some people have found their happiness from their weight loss either from treatment from a GLP-1 or not, then good on them I won’t shit on that.

I have ranted about how right-wing media often criticizes how the BP movement and treat it like it’s a bad thing and with their echo chambers that follow suit. But it’s also because I do worry that one day they might even push the envelope that one day being bigger or being attracted to bigger people may not be acceptable in society anymore. Oh especially if we’re talking about the Metabo Law in Japan that was started in 2008 and still enforced to this day.

It can definitely be worrisome to talk about the future, but it’s also rather fascinating at the same time. I guess we’ll have to see what happens in the foreseeable future. Especially for the sake of people like us in this community.

Hey if it makes you feel better by any means… I’m still going to be around 200lbs. Even if want to be more healthier, I don’t ever see myself being stick-thin. If that’s what someone wants, cool but if not that’s also cool. We all should choose what we want to be regardless if others think that it’s wrong.

Heh! Hey now I appreciate that, but I do still enjoy myself some yoga and the occasional hiking trail along the river and mountain side.

Fat as a choice

I don't think there is any way to keep the weight off for 99% of the people. Even people who have had surgery eventually gained the weight back. I personally know two people who died from weight loss drugs, and know of many more who died or became disabled from the surgery.

Fat as a choice

I was at the bar recently, worried I would see fewer or not fat women since GLP-1 is a thing. Glp-1 drugs make you not want or enjoy alcohol. I saw several larger women, and they were drinking beer. One had a big belly with fresh stretch marks and her shirt was riding up a little. At the very least, there will always be a bar scene, and alcohol makes you fat. People pretty much have to choose between drinking and glp-1 drugs. We've always seen people skipping doses for Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Also, an above poster mentioned he knew people who died from weight loss drugs. Idk if he means glp-1 but I have been seeing more and more posts by people on Facebook and elsewhere that they know a person or they themselves wound up in the ER from glp-1 drugs and they are against it. Some people lose a lot of weight and are fine for a while then all of a sudden end up in bad shape medically and have to be taken off the drugs. Glp-1 has been around for a long time but was prescribed in very small doses to diabetics. The weight loss glp-1 drugs we see now are much higher, even maintenance doses. This gives me the optimistic and perhaps wishful idea that once these drugs are no longer prescribed for weight loss, a lot of ladies will blow back up. It would be like COVID weight gain all over again. Anyways, I suggest you all keep an eye on the lawsuits against glp-1 drugs, particularly for gastroperesis and vision loss.
