I’m afraid of cooking?!?

I’m trying to catalogue information for when I meet my bf irl soon. I’m realizing though that not only am I clueless, I’m terrified of making a mistake in the kitchen. How can I be a feeder if I can’t even cook? ú_ù

Does anyone have any tips on overcoming this fear/building confidence in the kitchen?

What I did to be a better cook is find some of the simplest recipies I could find and make them repeatedly until they made sense. I also googled literally anything I wasnt sure about and how to do it. Following the recipies exactly is also helpful. Like if it says cook on medium heat for 2 min while stirring I did exactly that to the T. Youll definitly mess up a lot but its part of the process. Everyone has to start somewhere right?

I can concur with what Bghy has to say. Start simple and realistic. Trust in the recipe. You'll naturally get more confident as you gain experience, and making mistakes is a valuable part of that process. Eventually, you'll be able to better understand the reasoning behind the steps you're following, and that is what'll give you the confidence to pivot if things go wrong, or better yet, change up the recipe to make it just the way that you like it.

Above all else, have fun, and treat every mistake as a chance to learn something new. I'm sure your boyfriend will really appreciate that you're doing this for him.
