Fat experiences

How has your family reacted to your weight gain?

Matthew Olney:
When I first started gaining in my teens my mum would say about it quite often but now I'm in my 20s and the biggest I've ever been she doesn't say anything anymore. I'm sure she still worries a bit but I'm glad I can just live my life how I want

That is such a great perspective to hear. I’ve always admired how gainers make a decision and commitment to live their life in the way that makes them happy, it is something we can all be inspired by whatever we are into or want to do. I suppose no one wants to cause their parents undue worry but worrying about their children is what parents do, if it wasn’t that it would probably be something else!

How has your family reacted to your weight gain?

When I gotten fat as an eight year old, my mother tried putting me on a diet to lose weight. My mother and sister were on the slender side; while I became the fat one in the family. My mother would say that you’re getting fat like both of my aunts were. My sister would call me “fatty” . My other relatives would pat my round belly; stating that I’ve been eating a lot.

How has your family reacted to your weight gain?

My family hasn't really said anything to me, other than the occasional food offer.

My wife's family:

Do you want me to go get you some more?

Do you want the rest of this _____?

You can have the rest of the stir fry...

Why don't you take the whole pie?

Mom sent this over for you...

Maybe someone will have three hotdogs...

If you like it, you can have the whole pie...

How has your family reacted to your weight gain?

We see you are getting bigger and are you comfortable, with your size increase, i.e., we don't want you to get like your Aunt Sue was around (700 pounds)
