Fat experiences

Fat at the doctor

What experiences have you had with being scolded or shamed at the doctor’s office?

I’m new to my gain & have only had one minor comment when a nurse at a specialist clinic that wouldn’t usually weigh me looked me up and down and said “how much do you weigh now?” I didn’t know and had to step in the scale. It was a 30lb weight gain since my last weigh-in.

How about going to the dentist where you get asked about your current wright since the chair is rated for less than one will force onto it??

A couple of years ago, I had a medical emergency that required surgery. I was a little over 600 lb then, and I was too big for the first hospital I went to to treat me. I was unable to fit in an MRI and too heavy for their OR. They had to transfer me to a different hospital, and because no bariatric ambulances were available, I was transferred in a fire department vehicle with 9 firefighters lifting me on a heavy duty tarp. The experience was frightening, and as a result, I lost some weight. I didn't keep it off though, and I'm more than 200 pounds bigger than I was then. I'm trying to lose just enough weight that I can fit through my front door, which is currently an impossibility. I am about 11 ft. around at the fattest part of my belly, and I haven't left the house in a couple of months after a rapid intentional gain. I want to stay as obese as possible, but I do need to be able to get out in an emergency.

There are other medical challenges. I haven't fit in my dentist's chair in about 3 years, and they had to make it work with me staying in my bariatric wheelchair. I've outgrown that chair though, and even if I could fit in it, I'm too heavy for my husband to push me on his own. We're currently exploring options for a custom extra heavy duty chair from Big Bounder.

As far as doctors' reactions to my weight, the hospital that treated me and was very respectful. Years ago, I was in the high 300s, and the GP I had at the time pressured me to lose weight. I actually got down to 190 and hated it. Of course, at this point, that was 650 lb ago.

My current doctor doesn't body shame, but at one visit, I had gained around 40 lb in 6 months, and she cautioned me against getting bigger than I was. Of course, I kept growing. If I'm able to leave my house for my August appointments, I expect her to say something about all my gain, but I'm not quite sure what that will be!

Is 11 inch by the way a new world record for the biggest belly??

Not quite. That's my sitting belly measurement, and my standing belly measurement is about 118". There's at least one person who has officially measured larger, but I know of some who just aren't documented. Celestial Susanne also has an 11-ft belly, though were built very differently.

I get scolded every time I go to my Endocrinologist's office. She tells me to cut back on soda, and processed foods and get more exercise. I ignore her instructions and do the opposite every time lol. She still thinks I work in a factory and walk around, but I work in an office now.
