20 chapter limit

Hiccupx:
The change we made recently (making the first chapter of every story free), means that it doesn't count towards your viewing limit.

The navigation is the same and hasn't changed, so yes, you have to load the first page to load the chapter drop down, but then you can quickly pick up where you left off. This is the same as it always was.[/quote]

This is slightly helpful thanks, however as an avid\quick reader the limit of 20 is insanely "limiting" my main reason for visiting FF. I commented on this issue about a month ago. Many chapters of free stories are only 2 or 3m (I've read through in less than 2m) apiece, most average 4 - 7m and a cap of 20 sometimes equals out to less than 30m or 40m a day. Ridiculous.

Once again I first discovered FF over 20yrs ago and had been my main outlet up until recently. Already been navigating thru all the paid content for scraps of free 3m or 5m chapters, this just isn't enjoyable anymore.

Maybe if you had a Principled story only option for payments? Even then, my financial situation puts me in the red 2x a month as it is. Trust me I get this economy sucks. Sorry I just can't afford a subscription. But that might help other people just trying to read free stories.

Last thing I'd want to make things harder than they already are on writers here, but either 20 chap limit needs to be increased or a minimum of 1k - 1,500 words to be considered a full chapter. 3k + words would be ideal within current limits.

I've attempted to dabble in the past and maybe glitchy issues have been addressed since it's prob been over 5y... Failed uploads, then wrote 2k words directly (multiple times) only for it disappear or need to log back in and then it disappeared. So I gave up trying to post any content. Was happy to just read other peoples work and write for myself.

20 chapter limit

I've made a change to the way the viewing limit it calculated, which will hopefully make things seem a bit fairer.

Up until now, the limit was actually counted by chapter page views, not distinct chapters. So if you refreshed a page, went back to re-read a paragraph, or your connection hiccuped and reloaded the chapter, that counted as a second view and ate into your daily allowance without you actually reading anything new.

I've changed this so the limit is now based on the chapter itself, within the rolling 24 hour window. That means you can open, refresh, or revisit the same chapter as many times as you like, and it will only ever count once. I realise this won't stretch your 20 chapters into 21 or 25 chapters' worth of new content, but it does mean you're no longer losing your free allowance to something you'd already used up a 'view' for.
