Favorite deep-thinking-philosophical film?

If you haven't seen it yet the Gran Turismo, definitely a movie with philosophical applications. And also if you're interested in existentialism the Matrix is also good, can easily be compared to the famous "Alegory of the Cave" by Plato.

I had to do a paper on the "Alegory of the Cave" last year. This gives me extra incentive to actually see The Matrix.

Yea, the concept behind the matrix is almost exactly parrallel to the concept that Plato conveyed in his famous Allegory

Deep-thinking? Go for David Lynch (Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Mullholland Drive), Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain), or Andrei Tarkovsky (Stalker, Solaris).

If you don't mind subtitles, there are a lot of great films out there. For example, there was an outpouring of brilliant films from Iran for quite a while, from directors like Makhmalbaf and Kiarostami and others... The censorship made them work in allegories, some of which are quite beautiful.

That's right Juicy, this brings to mind another great existentialist movie. Pans Labyrinth, this movie is great because after a while you're not sure which aspect of the story is more true.

And also Legends of the Fall is a good movie *this one is in english though*, very much a rendition of the whole Prodigal Son theme.
