I shave my belly. I'm not a hairy guy in the first place, so not much to shave. I had hair from my pubic region to my belly button, that's all I shave. I don't have much chest hair either so I don't bother.
There are products the dissolve hair, mainly used by women on their legs. You might try some of those products.
