As far as diabetes is concerned, I'd very much recommend finding out if you have family history. Also if you're eating tons of sugar, you might consider picking up a glucometer, which you can normally purchase on sale for literally next to nothing at a major Pharmacy if you keep an eye on their advertisements. Use it to check your blood sugar every once in a while, along with your doctor visits of course, and if your blood sugar is going higher than 140-150 a couple hours after you've eaten, go see a doctor immediately.
Note: I'm not a medical professional or anything, this isn't expert advice. I'm just a diabetic. And trust me, while it might be manageable, you -do not- want diabetes, type I or II. Even with medication and proper management, it still is going to knock years off your life, unless of course, it gets cured. Which I'm rather hoping for.
