I have a graphic novel by an artist named Michael Manning called The Spider Garden. I find it fascinating because it is more-or-less a superhero comic with the fighting replaced with fucking. There are the costumes, the powers, the names...
I am -- and I certainly feel silly -- working on a novel about feeding and fattening and smothering and unfeasible obesity and so on and so forth. It's set in a near-future world where radical surgical procedures can enable people to do radical things.
Because the motivating character in the sample I wrote has named himself the Flatman, I decided that in that world, people would regard the capacities generated by radical medical procedures as superpowers and adopt costumes and names to match them. So I'm writing a novel that's secretly a superhero comic that reads as if David Cronenberg wanted to traumatize Suzan Powter.

I'm basing this on barely-future technology and trying to figure out what modern medicine could do if it attempted to make people fat. Goodness only knows it accidentally makes a lot of people fat.
Or to put it another way.
One of my characters was immobile but after being rescued had her joints replaced and was put on steroids and is now the largest agile woman on the planet. She is super-strong.
The character leading into the climax has undergone gastroplastic, lung, and cardiovascular augmentation along with a stoma for waste management. She gets fat super-fast and is super-easy to maintain.
You got any good ideas for vaguely-convincing science fiction fat powers? Superfat names and identities? Means of warping the trope?
I am all agog.
(And I'll go post the fragment that started the whole thing on my story page -- it's not quite the way the novel is going but there's a decent taste of what's to come.)
