Heavy cream or egg nog. Both relatively affordable compared to specialty stuff, but more importantly, both low prep. With cream, I mix it with chocolate milk or ice cream to make it taste better, and with egg nog, I just pour it and drink it. Simplicity is key, at least for me, a complicated shake that’s a pain in the ass to make won’t get made regularly and so it can’t help you gain no matter how good it sounds in theory.
I drink Boost meal replacement shakes too, but those are mostly for nutrition since I get deficiencies otherwise and they are NOT affordable. Still, if you have the cash to burn and like the taste enough to drink several in a day, I think they go down easier than the things I usually drink with the intention of gaining and they definitely upset my stomach less.
