Gaining

What's the average rate of gain for people?

This is a very general question that could have a wide variety of possible answers, but I wondered what realistic and sustainable rates of gain people have managed to maintain? I'm talking about over the course of months/years rather than in short and/or extreme bursts.

The reason I ask is that it seems at the moment the maximum my body can handle is a rate of between 2-3lbs a week consistently. And I read things on here about people gaining 20-30lbs in a month and wonder whether I just naturally have a lower limit or whether the examples of people having 8,000-10,000+ calories a day are just rare cases or perhaps one-off bursts of gaining.

Any thoughts from feeders and feedees who've had their own experiences and learned their own lessons?

I gained 150 lbs in 8 years. That doesn't seem like a lot compared to some people's 30lbs a month, but my body is adjusting and I'll keep going at my own pace.

That's still really impressive.

Personally I don’t find anyone else’s gain a metric for anything really, everyone has there own genetics and their own metabolism - you just gotta do you and enjoy the journey.

I’ve done 20, 30 pound months and I wasn’t eating *that much only like slightly more than normal, like I wasn’t uncomfortably stuffed granted what’s considered stuffed has changed massively…

But yeah I don’t think 10000 calories a day is very sustainable for most people even biggins, you know if you meet vanilla fat people they kinda eat like mice which is baffling to me. You gotta train your body to eat like that everyday otherwise it’s just a waste, imo.

I'm in the 1-3lbs a week category. Sometimes a little more if I have the extra money. Side note, gaining is damn expensive lol. Anyway, I find I gain in spurts. For a week the scale won't change then it suddenly jumps like 5lbs and stays there. Then again, our bodies weight changes daily for all sorts of reasons. So scales can be hard to use as a way to judge weight gain. Unless it's over longer time frames.or on average.

I think a lot of it simply depends on your budget limit more than your physical limit tbh.

Atleast in my case, I can gain an average of 2lbs a week and still be hungry half the day, but I need to work around a specific work schedule and be careful with money, and that's more taxing on me than anything else.

Honestly though, if you genuinely want to gain long term, 2-3 lbs a week consistently is really amazing! Thats 100-150 lbs in just a year!

I could be wrong, i'm not big myself, but also if you put on crazy amounts of weight fast you most likely won't be able to maintain it very well vs slowly working your way up with sustainable habbits.
