Fat experiences

Footwear?

I am on my feet all day at work (I move a lot, not very fast but a lot) and by the end of the day I find myself in absolute pain (I’m used to some pain after a long day but wow) I’ve gotten a new pair of shoes with good cushioning and they didn’t do anything. Is this just part of being over 400 pounds or do I need something a bit more on my feet because I’m so big now? What have you or your fatty done for feets. I thought at first it cause I was out of shape but I don’t really have a problem moving so I’m not **that out of shape. Or do I just need to tough it out for a bit longer to get the feet’s back in shape?

Title- Does Walking Barefoot Have Health Benefits?

www.healthline.com/health/walking-barefoot

I've walked barefoot and with minimal- or non-padded footwear for over 20 years now, worked in manual labor before and only spent one day in shoes which were slightly tight. There was quite a bit of soreness that evening, and from then on I only wear shoes which aren't tight at all, even if they're slightly loose. My feet remain comfortable. Padding should probably be treated like training wheels on a bike- there to protect initially, but will hinder development if used for too long.

Barefoot shoes are nice and all, but if he is in all that pain with cushion, they won't help his situation.

Barefoot shoes offer no support at all. Padding in and of itself isn't harmful. For some people, it's extremely necessary to function. But all padding isn't created equally.

He might need different support. Could need some orthopedic shoes. Honestly, a trip to the podiatrist may be in order.

All that said, being 400+ lbs is hard on the body. If you are on your feet all day and it hurts, that's not unusual. This can be alleviated somewhat by strengthening your lower body. Still, 400+ lbs is a lot of weight to support. There's a reason you see the 400+ lbs crowd sit a lot.

Hun, you are talking to a person who often doesn't wear socks or shoes at all. But I've know a number of people who need special support for a number of medical reasons.

To be clear, I am not anti-barefoot or anti-barefoot shoes. But I also know that some of the benefits are overhyped.

Besides, at the end of the day, if he is in this much pain, he needs to go to the doctor. Specifically, a podiatrist as I mentioned in my post.

RobbyP:
If padding reduces strengthening and insufficient strength for one's weight contributes to pain, then losing the weight until the pain stops, followed by strengthening followed by regaining in a cautious fashion would be the way to go. If one is unwilling (if one is unable, there's more going on) to lose it, then strengthening as quickly as healthily possible is paramount in order to no longer get guaranteed pain and damage. Wearing padded shoes reduces strength, the more time, the more lost, which would increase the frequency and intensity of both pain and damage.

Why are you so against him going to the doctor?

I'm not disagreeing he'll experience less pain if he lost weight. However, I do not believe that walking barefoot is sufficient enough to fix his problems. At the end of the day, it is a very good idea for him to go to the doctor as we do not know the full extent of his injuries. A forum post can only say so much, and we aren't his doctors.

Thanks for the insight guys I appreciate it! I’m thinking the doctor will just tell me to lose weight cause I’m morbidly obese, so I’m just gonna try to tough it out for a bit longer and try some of the tips I’d like to say I’m relatively healthy I drink lots of water and I’ve always stretched and stuff. I think I’m just not used to the weight and I’m just having some seasonal foot pain from getting back to work. But if it doesn’t alleviate I will check out a foot doctor.

If only the people we hired showed up to work everyday I could just be in the office in my nice cozy chair…. But we can’t have nice things, lol.

I met my partner when he was 407. He got up to about 490 - ish around January of this year.

I made sure that he went to the doctor and I refused to let him miss an appointment. Why would I do that if we are both into extreme weight gain? Because it's risky as shit. A lot of things can go wrong the bigger you get.

Whether or not you decide to lose weight is ultimately up to you. But you owe it to yourself to make sure that your vitals are in order. Perhaps even get something to relieve or manage the pain.

If your car is acting weird, you take it to the mechanic. Why? Because if you catch the issue early, you can stop it from becoming a massive headache later.

Give yourself more respect than you'd show your own car.

You’re absolutely right! Never thought of it that way. I have been to the doctor had a bit of a check up and have had my vitals taken and stuff and overall I’m healthy been told I need to lose weight a few times though recommended I see a dietitian/nutritionist. They did screen for diabetes and I’m clear, they were like “wow need even pre-diabetic” bit like wow just cause I’m fat” you assume a I have diabetes huh moment.. Just my feets sadly.

I did start a multivitamin, I wake up feeling less groggy lately. Less stiff.

That's good.

While I may disagree with RobbyP on walking barefoot helping your situation, I do agree with the overall idea of strength training being beneficial. There are a lot of options for you to look into, so feel free to experiment.

If your feet hurt due to walking more than you're used to, a podiatrist will be able to tell you if need to make specific changes to improve your overall foot health. Are your shoes a problem? Do you need inserts or orthopedic shoes? Are there excercises you need to strengthen your feet? One appointment isn't going to kill you.

Plus, foot problems can lead to hip and spine issues.

Yeah barefoot wouldn’t be a option I need steel toed boots when I’m out in the field, but when I’m around the office my slip ons usually are enough to get me through the day.

It certainly doesn’t help that I wore rain boots during the first part of the spring those have no support at all, and I was on last seasons boots after that. Spring came and went really quick this year never got a second
