Fat experiences

The usa is fattening, apparently

So my partner's recently moved to the states for her studies. Since she moved we've mostly been chatting with the occasional video call here and there.

On one of the video calls last week I could see that the button of her blouse near her breasts was gaping, but otherwise she looked the same as she always has.

Then two days ago she sent me a photo of her trying on a shirt. I was in awe.

In just two weeks, my girl seemed to have gained at least three pounds. Being the tiny woman that she is the change was VERY apparent.

Small side rolls, a hint of a double chin, a round belly, and an overall wideness I did not recall my girlfriend having two weeks ago.

And I totally understand how this could have happened, too.

The suburban area she lives in is unwalkable, so her daily 30-60 minute walks to get around town are gone.

On her trips to the grocery store she got herself packs of Chips Ahoy and Cheez-its whereas back home she hardly touched any unhealthy snacks unless it was a special occasion.

The girl who used to drink black tea with no sugar now orders sweetened chai-lattes from the Starbucks on campus every other day.

She started doing ab workouts because she felt like her belly's getting fat. I mean, ab workouts won't necessarily make your belly any smaller if your caloric intake doesn't change.

She later sent me a pic of her dinner comprised of a burger and fries.

I mean, I hope she loses the weight for her sake. I love her in any size, shape or form. I've never told her about my kink.

But I'm also secretly curious to see if she'll gain any more weight by the time I visit in late winter. Do you think I should say something? I get so turned on just thinking about her now.

God bless America.

The freshman 15 is definitely a thing on American college campuses. I know more than one student who gained 40+ pounds in a year in college. Unlimited dining hall food, late night pizza, and binge drinking all pack on the pounds.

Of course you should tell her! I don't know how she feels about gaining weight, so don't you just go "You got fat" 😁 Wait until she says something about it and then tell her you like her gain and you wouldn't mind if she keeps gaining. Open and sincere relationships is everything. You should know how she feels and likes and she should know what do you feel and like.

This is so true. The "freshman fifteen" is a bit of an understatement, lots of my friends gained more than twice that in the first couple semesters. Endless cookies and ice cream...and before you know it, those shorts won't fit over your ass.

Interesting to hear this college weight gain phenomenon. I never been to college and instead been spending nearly 6 years of my twenties working at a physical warehouse job. During those years I've gained a ton of weight. 2 Years ago I was around 190 pounds. I imagine depression and sudden cravings play a role in my diet.

It's been years but I recall once reading an article that said that in the U.S., the average amount of weight gained for a traditional freshman (that is, 18 years old, just out of high school, enrolled full-time) was 6 lbs, and I think around an additional 3-4 lbs for sophomore year.

So, sorry to burst some bubbles.

Of course, that's an average. Some, lose weight.

Others, there's no statistically significant change.

And yeah, there's some who pack on a little, or even a lot.

What happens, and whether it does, likely depends on a great many things. The only constant is that transition from high school to college is a major one, where almost everything changes and disrupted.

Your day to day schedule changes dramatically. The town and where you live might have changed dramatically. Even the courses are different. If you have a job, that too is likely to be different. Even if you work at the same chain business, the layout of the store will be different as would be most if not all of your coworkers.

While there are other possible life events that might be comparable in terms of sheer disruption, these other events are not as likely to be experienced by most.

speaking entirely anecdotally here, but it's true that ~most~ people I know did not really gain weight in college. Certainly some even established new fitness routines and became more fit. But the handful of people I knew who did pack on the pounds - and it's certainly quite a handful - they all seemed to put on 30+ pounds or so. Lots of factors to consider, like maybe they played sports in high school and were used to being able to eat as much as they wanted. Or they had restrictive parents and finally gained some freedom after moving out. I also knew several people who moved out of dorms into off-campus housing in their sophomore year etc, and wound up getting really chubby without even trying. In these cases I think an enabling partner may have played a role in their packing on 60-80 lbs within a couple years.

I think it boils down to proportions. I'll never forget my first visit to an american movie theater. I went to the concession stand and ordered a large coke and a large popcorn. And the person looked at me (i was alone) and they were like are you sure you want a LARGE popcorn? I flinched and said "yeah, large please." Bro handed me a BARREL of popcorn I swear. It was practically family sized and it was just for me lol I spent the next day or two snacking on popcorn.Of course the large coke was massive, felt like at least double the large size here in Canada.
