Is safely gaining with t2 diabetes possible?

So I was just diagnosed with diabetes. We think it's type 2, but are waiting for lab work to confirm. The onset was so fast and unexpected that it could be either type.

I'd like to say it correlates with reaching my goal weight, but I'm actually not that heavy at all. My diet was never good, but it certainly wasn't terrible either. And I was on a pretty strict liver-healthy diet for a few weeks that cut out all sugar before the diagnosis.

Anyways, im taking this very seriously but im not terribly well-informed on diabetes. Does having a higher weight increase risk of symptoms/complications? Is there a high-calorie diet that's safe? Does anyone here have experience with this?

So I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

I wish it happened because I had gained a lot of wait successfully or something, but over 6 years of gaining and I never managed to hit my initial goal of 200lbs.

My diet was never even that bad, it's admittedly frustrating that so many people can eat so much worse and be fine.

Anyways, is it even possible to still gain while being healthy? I don't understand it too well but I know I need to stay clear of all carbs. Would gaining weight put me more at risk?

Any and all advice would be appreciated! Im taking this very seriously and have already accepted I might never be able to gain weight again smiley

What you need to do is stabilize your blood sugar. Once your diabetes is more or less under control and learn how your body responds to things, you can slowly start gaining again.

That's rough. I am sorry to hear about that.

I am not a doctor or a diabetic but I have family members with type one and type two diabetes

In both cases gaining weight seems to exacerbate their symptoms and they both seem to struggle way more than a non diabetic to lose weight.

If I were you, I would ask a doctor. Diabetes can have serious health repercussions if not taken seriously.

I urge you to be very careful and to not intentionally gain weight until you have spoken to a medical professional and have a game plan for how to do it safely, if at all, and understand the potential risks and repercussions should your condition worsen.
