30lbs in 3 months???

Dreezy:
Is this possible? If so would it be difficult to do? I’m currently 190lbs and would like to be about 220lbs by the end of the year.

Would appreciate info! Especially from experienced gainers!

Thanks!

Is it possible? Yes. Is it easy to achieve? It depends.

For context, you'd have to gain 10 lbs a month or 2.5 lbs a week. While that is something you can do, the tricky part is consistent gains. It's easy for some, but hard for others.

Manage your expectations, but feel free to push yourself. Have fun and stay safe!

Geez, sound challenging…..honestly not really sure what managing my expectations looks like haha. I’m pretty new at this…….what would be a realistic goal?

I mean that while it is 100% possible to gain that much - especially with the holiday season around the corner - it is also possible that you end up only gaining 10.

And that's okay. Some people need a bit longer to gain 30. I am not saying that this will be your experience. I'm saying this because I have seen many a feedee give up because they didn't hit their targets during their time frame.

I did some math ran som figures and at the base level, you need consume something around 1700 calories a day just to maintain your current stature, in order to gain 2 pounds a week which is a lot btw you’d need to consume somewhere in the ballpark of 3000 calories a day.

Just crunching the numbers if you started today eating 3k by January 1 26 you’d be just shy of 220… This is assuming you don’t work out much, or don’t work a physically demanding job.

This is more than doable, especially if you have a big appetite.
If you go through with it… enjoy the easy gains. People don’t realize how many calories it takes to maintain a very fat body. People actually severally under eat and then wonder why they platiue at higher weights, when they need something like 4000 calories a day just to maintain their weight, and upward of 6k for rapid gains.

Also what munches said is true. It’s quite a bit but I belive you can get past it. I would recommend easing in a bit more, just being indulgent with foods you love, especially with the holidays coming up but you - but 3k isn’t that much. I mean crush a large pizza and some sandwiches and through out a day and you’d be well over 2k pushing 3k

So I’m 20lbs in 3 months might be a more realistic goal? I’m just trying to set real expectations, I wanna enjoy this process.

Also would 20lbs be noticeable? I’m currently 5’6 185lbs so that would put at about 205lbs (which is the heaviest I’ll have ever been btw)

There’s a little overlap between my gaining experience and your plan, plus our age, sex, and height.
I went from ~140 lbs to 265 lbs peak, mostly during my 30s, and I’m 5’4 so—close to your height. I was reviewing my weight logs to see the most I gained in a 90-day period and it was in fact 20 lbs, from 186 to 206. 30 lbs is technically possible, but your gain may seem more like work and therefore less enjoyable. 20 lbs is more realistic indeed.

A 20 lb gain on a 5’6 185 lb frame would be “not insignificant” in terms of how you look, but it’s kind of on the edge. Wearing a t-shirt around the people closest to you, they are more likely to notice. Wearing heavier clothing around acquaintances, they are less likely to notice. (Plus weight distribution of course varies between people).

One last thing: try not to get too fixated on the numbers on the scale day-to-day or even week-to-week. Fluctuations are natural, gaining in spurts (vs. in a straight line) is normal. Just enjoy yourself and your increasing squishiness. smiley

Dreezy:
Definitely agree!

Were those 20lbs challenging to gain? What did your diet look like to gain that in 90 days?

Challenging? Yes, in that overeating did not come naturally to me. I had to train and habituate myself to overeat and sometimes binge (I was on the thin side most of my life.) No, insofar as I'd already put on weight by that point so my ticket to the Gain Train was punched.

Diet-wise, I was eating as much as possible mostly in the form of carbs and fats. Pizza, ice cream, more pizza, Chinese food, Italian food, Thai food, some Indian food, other cuisines, plus some junk food sprinkled in... A lot of my disposable income went to my food budget, which was 'effin expensive. Also, no unnecessary exercise. Just lazing around in my spare time, shoveling fettucine alfredo into my mouth--with some encouragement from outside parties.
Spoiler alert: Don't do what I did. Even if you want to get as fat as possible as quickly as possible, try to eat a more balanced diet and definitely get some low-key exercise regularly. (I was lucky not to have developed health problems).

Wow man, appreciate the reply this great info!

Yea okay, sounds like it might be a bit more challenging than I’d originally planned……

For clarity, when I did the math you would be 214 or something like that so when I said just short I meant 4 to 6 pounds assuming you maintain 3k-4k calories a day. It’s not about the difficulty or anything just it’s just raw numbers.

It might be challenging it might not be, I don’t know how active you are and what your appetite is like… if you can’t eat a lot it might be challenging but if you can eat a lot it’s more doable.

20-30lbs is noticeable, given your height.

Definitely, I’m averaging anywhere from 2500 to 3000 calories a day right now. Been doing for about the last 2 weeks and honestly it’s been fairly easy…….the only thing is I do have muscle mass so you can still see some definition……

I made the descion to stop working out a month ago as my sciatica was acting up so I’ve been SUPER sedentary……in your experience how long until you saw muscle definition and mass go down? I’m not really into the whole muscle chub hard belly thing, I just want to be soft haha.

If you have sciatica, you need to be active. The heavier you get, the more strain you will put on your back. You don't need to be super muscular, but it will behoove you to keep your back and core strong enough to mitigate that.

Yeah you’re gonna be fat af in a matter of months just keep at it. I would be interested in seeing how defined you are rn considering you’re slightly obese. At your weight and height unless you’re built af lol

30lbs in 3 months???

Okay, the rule of thumb is an extra pound in weight is usually an extra 3500 calories. That means to gain two pounds per week you'd need to consume approximately 7000 more calories per week. The type of food consumed is also an issue. I know when I eat mainly protein, 7000 more calories is 'a lot'. Carbs, not so much. But as someone wrote earlier, it's also consistency. Gaining let's say two pounds per week for 15 weeks is difficult to sustain.

Gaining weight isn't difficult. It's just increasing calories regularly. I think if you are pretty stable in what you eat daily, then adding an extra 500 or so calories a day isn't difficult to find. That would get you a pound a week. You could potentially have a milk shake after your last meal of the day to get close to 1000 calories extra per day also.

Aside from having a ravenous appetite, I usually find that eating a little more everyday works long term. Plus, it gets you into the habit of eating. Trying to do a lot in a short time, while doable, is difficult to sustain, especially when you have no history of doing this.
