I feel like I’ve been teetering on the edge between bbw and ssbbw for years as my weight has wavered between 315-350lbs. (5’6”). Here are some things I’ve noticed…
315lbs. - size 26/28(UK). I can walk and stand for longer periods. I even did a whole museum and while I recall wanting to sit a number of times, I still survived with only minimal to moderate sweating. I’m too big for most off-brand plus size clothes on Amazon and I’ve outgrown most mainstream brand plus sizes too, but specialty plus size stores always carry my size. I usually need a seatbelt extender on an airplane, but not for cars. Appreance-wise, I have a double chin but my neck still exists.
345lbs.+ - size 28/30(UK). Standing without leaning becomes very difficult, not immediately, but within 5-10min (I think/am guessing). I’ve had to noticeably alter the way I walk because my previous gait was far too strenuous on all fronts (and I get angry when I’m hot and sweaty 😂) - by widening my stance to accommodate my thighs, and I shift my weight to move my hips and legs forward instead of one leg sliding past the other; I can feel my belly smooshing into my thighs with every step, and most of the time when standing (which drives me utterly wild). Most specialty plus size stores carry my size, but not for all items, (and some carry very few). I can’t drive without a seatbelt extender, and in Ubers I am often unable to buckle up full stop. My neck is rarely visible under my now permanent double chin and burgeoning the third neck roll.
Also, at lower weights I’m aware of furniture and exam chairs with weight limits, but I don’t mention them and get away with it. Now it feels obvious that I’m putting my GP, dentist, and aesthetician’s professional seating equipment at risk every time I use it.
For me, it’s the walking first and then how I fit into public spaces that define the difference between the two levels of fat. Like others have said, it’s the every day impacts the weight has on someone - what exact weight that is will be a little different for everyone.
I usually assume that 1” height difference = 10lbs. weight difference, if that helps answer your question 🙂
