For some, going on voice calls or voice chats in games help! You can leave any time and you don't have to worry about body language or having the right facial expression. Try not to over-rely on it though!
Second, are there any classes in your area you can attend? workshops? Bookclubs? People are there to learn and connect so there's not a ton of pressure on walking up to someone and forcing it, you can talk about a shared thing! keeping your hands busy can help to, so like painting or pottery or something. Walking groups are good too!
