It's the small things

Ditzy:
My drug addictions were cocaine and heroin.
I was playing in a band and touring a lot so I fell into using both.
Rehab was not fun and getting "clean" was extremely hard.
Addictive personalities are a thing but that was never mentioned to me by rehab doctors.
I find compulsive overeating not really the same thing but an urge that is very strong.
You don't get a high so to speak.
I was eating just because it looked or sounded good and no matter how much I ate the urge to eat was still there.
Its really hard to explain it all.

Kudos on you for staying clean for so long. I know it's not easy getting clean, so it's awesome that you're keeping up the hard work.

That said, I hope you can get to a point where you only overeat because you want to.

Totally agree with Munchies here. Very well done you.

Thanks I appreciate the kind words.
I rarely talk about that stuff on this site.
I try to keep that stuff in the past.
It was a fun part of my life and a dark part as well.

I mean, ultimately speaking, it's none of our business either way. What you choose to share or withhold is up to you.

Either way, you are right. This is a part of your past, and it does not define who you are now.

Ditzy, you are a wise person. You seem to focus on the quality of your words over the quantity of your words, and I respect you for that. It is this that keeps me reading your posts. You seem street-smart, and you are lovely.

As for anyone wanting to try binge eating, be careful what you wish for. If you were to try all the small habits that contribute to this, it may be hard to stop.

When gainers say they are addicted to food is sounds more metaphoric.
Compulsive overeating is more like an addiction because you can't stop at times and don't care if you gain or not.
The drive to eat is so strong sometimes its hard to control.
I am a recovering drug addict so I know a bit about addiction.

I really like how you describe this here. I can very much relate to your description of “compulsive overeating”. I am happy about my size, I like being fat and I don’t have a desire to change how I eat. But I definitely feel that I could be described as a compulsive overeater! That strong drive to eat as much as possible has been a consistent part of my life for a long time.

Just snacking all day, that’s the small habit that really have a great impact on my weight. In time, it makes you eat more and more and eventually gain more weight so, that is the small habit that helps me increase my presence 😋

I know what you mean by "addictive personality", but - maybe because I'm a French speaker - I can't help but read if as "you have a personality that is addictive" (which also seems true of you). smiley

I compulsively overeat but I care if I gain. I agree about the addiction part, though. I used to have anorexia and I find it's just as hard if not harder to restrict myself right now as it used to be to eat unrestricted back when I needed to "weight restore" (I strongly resisted this process, as I was obese before my relapse and wanted to make sure I wouldn't be get fat from my recovery... especially since there was a chance I'd overshoot my original weight!).
