Why are people so angry at fat acceptance movements on the internet?

2seatsalways:
If anything I'm for your body you do you, but Ozempic being abused for weight loss instead of mainly diabetes is really tragic. Sure there is mounjaro and a small list of others but ozempic was the leading medication that helped millions of patients.
Now those patients are struggling to get ozempic because it's becoming more available for weight loss than helping blood sugar levels.

Hot take I know but rather this pill be used for people who need it.

Munchies:
Yeah. Plus it's coming out that a decent size of people who are taking this are experiencing permanent side effects.

But that's not about fat exceptance.

Curious as to what side effects you’re saying, of listed on webmd all seem standard and pretty expected of a medication. Anything different you’ve heard in particular? My S/O is trying to be approved. I’m not really for it, but that’s not my decision.

In fairness to you, WebMD provides a comprehensive, but not complete list. This is also something that's still developing, so that might be why it's not on there.

There's new evidence that shows some people (not everyone) will experience digestive paralysis due to Ozempic. There's currently a class action lawsuit about it.

It's a rare side effect, but if you end up with it, it may persist even after stopping the medication.

The bulk of Ozempic users won't experience this. But it's a reminder that if you are wanting to slim down and are not severely diabetic, it's worth it to explore other options first.

Thank you, thats good to know.

I just double checked with them and they said its the new zepbound/mounjaro injection, not ozempic. So no digestive paralysis.

I’m still petrified regardless, just because any new medication doesn’t have the data that you get from rolling it out yet.

This might be off topic but related, I've wondered myself why the hostility towards fat people on the internet recently...

It's everywhere, especially Instagram. People not necessarily even body positive, feedee or whatever but just average fat people exercising, trying on clothes, talk about stuff, etc but go through the comments... The same worn out "jokes", the same "but your health" trolling, etc.

It makes me wonder why these people hate fat people so... Live and let live, right? I kinda wish scientific studies could be done to figure out why the fuck people are so hostile to fat people.

I've said this elsewhere, but fatphobia is considered the last condoned kind of bigotry. Since society views being fat as a moral failig and a choice, they feel validated to be as cruel as possible.

The internet is a cruel place. If you are marginalized in any way, people will leave hate comments and troll you. But there is a limit to this because if you go after the wrong one or it goes viral enough, the internet will go after you and come for all you hold dear.

With a few exceptions, the internet doesn't have the same level of rage for fatphobia as they do for other other forms of bigotry. So the bullies feel safer to be gross.

It’s amazing how even some otherwise progressive people don’t condemn fatphobia, unless the issue is brought up. obviously it’s a less important issue in some aspects but still bigotry non the less.

The ammount of videos you see deriding fat people and body positivity is insane and they all get away with it

Turns out that being progressive doesn't make you a good person.

And I say this as a progressive.

All progressives: I believe in body autonomy for all!

Some of the same progressives: do fats even deserve rights?

You hate to see it!

I sometimes pretend I’m skinny to fit in, It’s not a behavior I’m proud of at all and I feel like it’s going to bite me in the ass someday but for now I think I’ll just mask up I do slip up sometimes and talk about how much I like to eat. But people can be so vicious
