As a person who draws things for people and myself, I kinda need to be opposed to ai art and related generative materials. I think the technology and discussion behind the ethics, legality and implications are extremely fascinating and should be explored.
Unfortunately, much like the whole snafu with crypto/the block chain, the actual implementation and use of the tools available out pace it's own infrastructure and purpose, mostly in the persuit of greed or short cuts. Too many businesses wanting to use it to cut out writers and artists, leading to low quality stolen reproductions of others works, conversely a lot of "ai artists" and "ai writers" that simply generate materials with little editing or effort end up diluting the sites they deploy their galleries in.
It's a shame because I find ai visualization fascinating as it reminds me of the images my mind conjures up in dreams, weird and off but recognizable and a neat basis for a muse to build on.
I've found concepts like the proof of concept game "suck up!" interesting in having ai generated npc scripting being able to generate fairly cohesive responses and simple decisions for the games objectives to have a lot of potential when coupled with smart writers to build a greater narrative. But for now, the good is horribly outweighed by the negative and we really aren't taking the right steps to be able to be responsible for the genie we've made.

I like your balanced view on this. You recognize that it can be a powerful tool if people would use it well, and I completely agree that right now they're not - and they won't for a long while yet.
(I'm very pro-artist/writer and don't like the things I've seen with how ai is being developed/trained or how it's being used.
At the same time, I appreciate technology and the potential ai has as a powerful tool if people could learn to use it nicely instead of for greed).
